Krasna means beautiful in Czech. She's a 40' ketch, built in Canada in 1974, by Hughes Boat Works. The designers are Sparkman & Stephens. They were among the top designers in the world. She's very heavily built, both for comfort and stability. She's built for strength over speed. So she's not a racer.
A traditional layout of a forward cabin w/head and shower and an aft cabin w/head and shower and two berths in the galley. A large galley in the center of the boat. The galley has a refrigerator, oven and stove, sink with salt and fresh water. She holds 80 gallons of diesel and 120 gallons of fresh water. Teak interior, plenty of cupboard space,
Above decks is a center cockpit that seats six people comfortably, lots of deck space. A ketch rig is two masts the forward mast is taller than the aft mast. I run three sails, the genoa, the main and the mizzen.
We have an Avon life raft on deck, a dingy and motor on the davits. Full safety gear for six people. There are two VHF radios, three GPS' and one of them is a chart plotter too. An excellent autopilot, radar, two heavy anchors and other bells and whistles.
She's designed to be a cruiser! We try to sail, but when the winds die we've got a good engine. She can go around the world or to the next anchorage for the night. She's tougher than I am.
